Abstract:
“Anosov-like” is a dynamical condition on a discrete group acting on the plane, modeled after a special case of these actions that come from Anosov and pseudo-Anosov flows on 3-manifolds. In previous joint work with Barthelm ́e and Frankel, we studied these actions as a tool towards classifying transitive Anosov flows. However, even without this motivation, this class of actions is an interesting and beautiful object in its own right. In this talk, I will present some of the structure theory of Anosov-like group actions, describing how, from a simple set of dynamical assumptions, one can recover a great deal of topological and group-theoretic structure. This work involves ongoing collaborations with Barthelm ́e, Bonatti, and Fenley.
